George Eliot trail spanning across Warwickshire launched

You are viewing content from Fosse 107 Loughborough. Would you like to make this your preferred location?

The illustrated trail guides you around places connected to the world famous author.

It takes readers through the collections at Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery, Nuneaton Library, the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and Coventry Archives.

The trail was recently featured in an article in The Times, celebrating the region’s links to Eliot, and was developed through Exploring Eliot. This is a partnership project, funded by the Esmée Fairburn Collections Fund, exploring the fantastic George Eliot collections at Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery, Nuneaton Library, the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and Coventry Archives.

It has involved new research of the collections, creative workshops, films and animation created by students in response to the collections and an online choir inspired by Eliot’s love of music. The new website created through the project features star items from the collections as well as content created in these workshops.

Cllr Kyle Evans, Portfolio holder for Public Services commented: “George Eliot’s links with our area are well known and it is right we should breathe new life into the stories we tell about her, and do all we can to celebrate someone who was truly one of the world’s most significant novelists, and born in our area.

“I love the way this trail enables the user to see at a glance the places still in existence today that might offer intriguing clues to us all about how and where George Eliot got inspiration for her extraordinary writing.”
