They found syphoning equipment abandoned at the depot.

On Sunday 4th of April, Warwickshire Police were alerted to intruders on the Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Gresham Road depot.

Motion-sensitive CCTV picked up images of the trespassers making their way across the site, which raised the alarm for police and security.

A small amount of fuel was taken and paraphernalia associated with syphoning fuel, including pipes and containers, was found abandoned on site.

Kevin Hollis, director of public services at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, said: “Other council depots in the region are reporting similar incidents, presumably linked to the price hike that we have all seen in fuel costs in recent weeks.

“Security measures are in place and they have prevented thieves from escaping with the amount of fuel they would have been hoping for.

“We will continue to monitor other safeguards and preventative measures that might be needed, but it is good to see those we currently have in place have been effective.”

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is working with Warwickshire police and regular patrols will be carried out.
