Hinckley Leisure Centre re-opens its doors today in a phased return.
The reopening will be done over three phases, across three weeks, with measures in place to keep visitors and staff safe.
Phase 1 will see the gym and studio classes resume.
Phase 2, from Monday 10th August, the swimming pool will open with lane swimming.
Phase 3, from Monday 17th August, the sports hall will reopen.
A series of safety measures have been introduced such as one way systems; perspex screens on reception counters; and sanitising stations throughout the facilities. Only pre-booked visits will be permitted and only card transactions will be accepted.
Executive Member for Culture and Leisure at the Borough Council, Councillor Keith Nichols said: I’m delighted that Hinckley Leisure Centre will be reopening its doors in a phased return as we adapt to the ‘new normal.’ It is recognised nationally the key role sport and physical activity will play in the recovery from this pandemic.
“In readiness for this we have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes with our partners at Places Leisure to plan for how this can be best achieved. It is a key priority for the council helping people in our communities to improve their physical and mental health. Our leisure centre is central to this aim and provides an excellent environment to help keep us physically and mentally healthy.”
A spokesperson for Places Leisure said: “We are really pleased with the Government’s decision to allow indoor gyms and leisure facilities to reopen.
“Since we closed our facilities on government advice in March, the team has been taking advice from Public Health England, following government guidelines, and consulting with our trade body ukactive to ensure that we can reopen as soon as possible."
