Loughborough Fair rolled into town on Wednesday November 13 and was a great success over its four-day run.

The historic fair, which was celebrating its 798th year, is organised by Charnwood Borough Council and attracts thousands of people every year.

The fair included a host of rides including King Frog, Top Scan, Freak Out, Miami Trip and old favourites such as the Cakewalk and Dodgems made a welcome return. The big observation wheel was a big hit, offering fantastic views of the town.

The fair was officially opened by the Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Brenda Seaton who read the official fair proclamation and then greeted stall owners, showmen and members of the public alike as she toured the fair.

Sylvia Wright, head of leisure and culture at the Council, said: “We had a fantastic four days of Loughborough Fair and we are delighted with how it went.

“The weather wasn’t always kind to us but overall I think we’ve done very well. Friday and Saturday were both dry for most of the time and the atmosphere was fantastic and people were just having really good fun on the rides, at the stalls and throughout the fair.

“There were plenty of families enjoying themselves.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved for making it happen and making it such a successful Loughborough Fair.”

The first official Charter for the fair was granted to the Lord of the Manor, Hugh le Despencer, in 1221 by King Henry III. The fair was then held on St. Peter’s Day.
