The university issued a statement saying its 'Hey Ewe, Incognito and FND' club nights were cancelled.

Loughborough University has cancelled its student's union club nights due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the UK.

A statement from the university said: "Whilst we're aware that nightclubs can still legally operate under the current Government guidelines, we have noticed a rise in concern from students who are worried about the transmission of COVID-19 within large venues. For the safety of our members, we have made the decision to cancel our large-scale events for the remainder of the term.

"All original ticket holders will be automatically refunded over the next couple of weeks. We are unable to refund Season Pass tickets, as they have no monetary value and the financial savings that come from buying a Season Pass outvalue the three events we had to cancel. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

"Our smaller venues, John Cooper's and The Lounge will remain open until 11 pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night. For the safety of other students and our staff, we recommend that you take a lateral flow test before visiting if you are not vaccinated, wear a mask when moving indoors, and observe social distancing measures."
