M1 near Loughborough closed in both directions due to lorry fire

Vehicles that are caught in the traffic are being turned around.

Emergency services are at the scene of a lorry fire on the M1 Northbound Junction 23 - 23a.

The road has been closed in both directions because of the smoke.

Fire Engines from Loughborough, Birstall, Castle Donington, Technical Rescue from Southern, Melton, and  Ashbourne were called to put out the flames.

When the crews arrived the lorry had left the carriageway and was fully involved in fire.

It has been confirmed that 'all persons are accounted for and there are no injuries'.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue updated their website at 14:19 to record that the fire was now. 'Highways in attendance assessing damage to roadway and furniture. Structural engineer has been requested by Highways due to safety concerns.'
