He stole cash from the store in Walnut Road, Loughborough, in January 2016.

An armed robber who threated a shop assistant in Loughborough has been jailed for four years after admitting the offence.

34-year-old Daniel Clarke of Farndale Walk, Manchester, was charged with robbery and threatening a person with an offensive weapon after he stole cash from the Nisa store in Walnut Road, Loughborough, in January last year.

Clarke was sentenced to four years in prison at Leicester Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to robbery at an earlier hearing.

Detective Constable Yassin Desai was the investigating officer, he said: “We are pleased Clarke has pleaded guilty to the offence and spared the victim the trauma of going through the events of that evening again.

“Clarke was armed with a knife and made threats towards the victim, he had no qualms in carrying a weapon in this way. We hope this conviction sends a message to others who choose to carry a knife and threaten innocent members of the public, we and the courts take these offences very seriously and will leave no stone unturned to bring people to justice.

“In October last year the force launched the Lives not Knives campaign which was aimed at educating people on the dangers of carrying a knife in public and the consequences of their actions.”
