Councillors have turned down a proposal to build 90 new homes in the centre of Market Bosworth.

The application for outline planning permission was sent in to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council on 3rd April 2020 by Gladman Developments Limited.

The proposals include development of land off Shenton Lane in Market Bosworth near to Market Bosworth Cemetery.

On 8th January 2021, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council refused to give outline permission for the development. The decision noticed outlined a number of reasons including:

"The application proposes residential development outside of the defined settlement boundary of Market Bosworth, within the countryside that permeates towards the centre of the town, on an area of landscape which positively contributes to the important rural and historic character of Market Bosworth. Built development in this location would erode the strong countryside gateway currently provided along Sutton Lane and Shenton Lane which reinforces the character of the village."

"Therefore the proposed development has a significant adverse impact on the landscape and visual character of the area and does not protect the intrinsic value, beauty and open character of this countryside location or the individual settlement identity of Market Bosworth"

Town planners also had concerns about the impact on nearby roads.

We have contacted the applicant for a comment.
