Plans to develop a new £3.7m adult social care facility in Coalville are set to take a step forward.

Plans are being drawn up to build up to 16 supported living properties for adults with learning disabilities to live as independently as possible, as well as a six-bed short breaks building, which will provide overnight short breaks for adults with learning disabilities.

If given the go ahead, and subject to the necessary approvals, it would mean that the existing short breaks service at Smith Crescent would close and be replaced by the new purpose built facility.

The proposals would see the new development built on the Hamilton Court/Smith Crescent site.

We are committed to providing the best care that we can across the county, and if the plans are approved, the new service will improve the lives of those who need it.

We are working closely with the five people who currently live on the site, their families and advocates.

We are working closely to identify suitable accommodation for them and their families, while ensuring they receive the support that continues to meet their needs.

The plans will also see suitable space used on the site to provide the council’s Community Life Choices (CLC) service, which is currently provided at the Coalville Community Resource Centre.

CLC services, formally known as day services, are used by people who have social care needs. Individuals are supported during the day to access community facilities, with a key focus on enabling and improving life skills and supporting access to employment and volunteering opportunities.

If approved it could see work started on site as early as November 2019, with an estimated completion date of March 2021.

The council’s Adults and Communities Scrutiny Committee and Cabinet will discuss the plans at meetings on Monday, 10 June and Tuesday, 25 June – tune in and watch online at: www.leicestershire.gov.uk/webcast
