Plans submitted for a renewable energy site in Earl Shilton

Blaby District Council will review the plans later this year before voting on the outcome.

A planning proposal has been submitted to Blaby District Council for a 9-acre renewable energy site.

The Normanton Energy Reserve would be located on land east of the A47 to the northeast of Earl Shilton near Normanton Millenium Wood.

The plans have been submitted by renewable energy company Exagen.

They have released designs for the proposed energy site storage centre which at a peak capacity of 500MW / 1GWh will be capable of powering 235,000 homes for two hours.

This is 80% of the homes in Leicestershire, the county where the battery will be situated.

Exagen said that one of the reasons the site has been picked is the 'huge potential for biodiversity enhancement'.

The total land area of the site is 19 acres and the planning proposals say that approximately 50% will be used for infrastructure and the other 50% for landscaping and biodiversity enhancement and woodland creation

The plan, states that each year the project will deliver back onto the grid the equivalent electricity consumption of 235,000 homes.
