Officers are appealing for witnesses after a man suffered facial injuries following an assault in a park.
A spokesperson from Leicestershire police said: "It happened at around 6.20pm on Friday 7th August in Sileby Memorial Park in Seagrave Road, Sileby.
"The 28 year old victim, was playing basketball with a friend when he was approached by a group of around 10 youths.
"They asked to join in and when refused were racially abusive towards the victim before three of the group hit him in the face.
"He sustained cuts and bruises which required hospital treatment. He has since been discharged.
"Following the incident the group dispersed and left the park."
Sergeant James Thomas is investigating the report. He said: “This was a random assault on a man who was out enjoying the hot weather and playing a game of basketball.
“It is believed that the youths, both boys and girls, were around 15-16-years old.
“We would like to hear from anyone who was in the park and recall seeing the group or the incident itself take place.
“Behaviour such as this is unacceptable. A man has been racially abused and assaulted and we are determined to find who was responsible.”
