Staff at Leicester's hospitals have been thanked by patients and their families for their care during the coronavirus outbreak.
Letters and cards showing appreciation are sent to the hospital each month from grateful patients.
Hospital bosses have been giving the patient recognition award to those that have been mentioned more than five times.
Over the last six months they've awarded four members of staff.
Donna Pywell, Senior Nurse Patient Experience at Leicester’s Hospitals, explained: “We all come to work to try and do the very best for our patients and make a difference.
“Some of the comments that are highlighted to us truly describe a patients experience with our staff, how they are put at ease and the care that is provided is seen as excellent.”
Faye Clarke, Midwife, Nazia Kardame, Emergency Nurse Practitioner, Rosie Richardson, Staff Nurse and Jo Taylor, Deputy Sister, have all received the Patient Recognition Award for their outstanding contribution to care and the amazing feedback they have received.
Comments included: “The care from midwifery team has been exceptional. Faye has looked after the needs of me and my baby and to the highest standard.”
“Nazia treated me with kindness and respect.”
“All the nurses always ensure that you are kept up to date with your treatment, concerned with my wellbeing and are lovely. Rosie is brilliant as well; I could not have survived my morning without her smiles”
“...the staff have been amazing, making sure I was okay. Jo Taylor is an amazing person who stayed with me all the way.”
Jo Taylor, Deputy Sister and recipient of the Patient Recognition Award, said: “I was so shocked to receive my award and very proud, I couldn’t believe my patients had taken their time to write such lovely things.
“It shows me that how I nurse is right, that giving empathy and time, means a lot, not just to me but to my patients also. I feel so proud.
“We have changed our patient admission criteria so we have many different patients now, but we have enjoyed the challenge. It has been tricky occasionally, due to no visitors being allowed in with the patients. I have felt so sorry families and relatives.
“The patients and their families have made me feel proud to be a nurse. Proud to know what we do makes a difference.”
