Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service have said they will be on the scene for the foreseeable future.

The amount of damage caused to Loughborough Town Hall in yesterday's fire is still unknown.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service reported on the 15th of March that one building was fully involved in a fire and it was spreading to a neighbouring building.

They are currently on the scene (16th March) in the Market Place and said they are using a Turntable Ladder to access difficult-to-reach areas in the building.

The Leader of Charnwood Borough Council has thanked firefighters for their response to the blaze in Loughborough town centre.

Cllr Jonathan Morgan said: “This was a significant fire, but importantly no-one has been hurt.

“I would like to thank Leicestershire Fire and Rescue for their amazing response and preventing this fire from being even more devastating. We have not yet been able to access Loughborough Town Hall so it is difficult to assess the damage but we will update residents as soon as we can. We know how important the town hall is to Loughborough and its heritage.

“Once again, our thanks go to the fire service for their prompt actions and also to the police for their support on the ground.”

There was meant to be an event called 'An Evening with Sir Geoff Hurst' on the 15th of March however this was cancelled.

Loughborough Town Hall has not yet confirmed if the performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will go ahead.

A HSBC UK spokesperson said: “It is too early to tell what, if any, damage has been caused to the branch, but we will provide an update when we can.

"We are looking at what we can do to provide a ‘pop-up’ service in the town, but in the meantime, customers can use the local Post Office for day-to-day transactions in addition to online, mobile or telephone banking. Our Live Chat service is available 24/7."

Eight fire engines were sent to the scene in Loughborough's Market Place at 15:21 on the 15th of March.

The flames could be seen near the HSBC and Loughborough Town Hall.
