Charnwood Community Action is continuing to support residents across the borough.

The borough council launched the campaign earlier this year in partnership with John Storer Charnwood and other voluntary organisations to help community efforts during the coronavirus pandemic.

The campaign had also taken on co-ordinating some local food banks but the council says those organisations are starting to return to normal operations on a phased basis.

Shepshed and Soar Valley food banks have already reopened and started to deliver the food parcels within their local communities.

Charnwood Community Action recently delivered its 12,000th food parcel and is currently delivering to around 600 households each week. The team has also been providing a befriending service to residents and signposting people to a range of services.

Councillor Harper-Davies, lead member for communities said: “We’ve had a fantastic response from our partners, residents and very generous businesses since the launch of Charnwood Community Action.

“We’ve worked closely with a number of organisations to ensure the needs of residents are met during what has been an unprecedented and difficult time. It is important for people who have been receiving support from the campaign to know that support is still there but we are also working in partnership with many more local community groups and voluntary organisations to ensure this effort continues.

“This includes supporting local food banks and community groups as they begin to reopen and restart their services.

“I hope we can continue to build on the efforts of everyone involved with Charnwood Community Action to create stronger partnerships across the voluntary sector in the borough."
